It was full of a new term that I’ve learned: jump cuts. Youtubers often cut long pauses out of the video to improve retention. It was strange- as soon as I was taking out the pauses, before I knew that they were called j-cuts, I played it back to realize that this did in fact, sound like a Youtube video.

It took me two hours to film, but it took me four days to edit. This is partially because I was learning how to use editing software, but it’s also because I learned that editing takes time.

I thought that the time consuming part would be setting up to film, and then to film. But as my videographer friends informed me with a knowing smile, editing is the time-consuming part.

It turns out that for one minute of video that you see on Youtube, it could’ve taken about an hour of editing. So a four minute Youtube video may have had four hours of editing, a ten minute video could’ve had ten hours of editing. Interesting.

This video isn’t very smooth, especially with the overexposed background, and initial awkwardness talking to a camera lens, but I was able to share what I wanted to share about my books. I hope to get better on the next video, and the subsequent video after that.

For now, I have a new respect for Youtubers, editors, content creators, and for people in film. One video takes so much effort! Wow 😯 Here’s my first video below, in case you want to see! 😁
