I’m learning a lot about Youtube right now, which I will share with you later. But for now, I will just share with you this experience:

Earlier this week, I bought a DSLR camera, the Canon EOS M50, a small Rhode microphone, a memory card and a small tripod. I watched a lot of Youtube in the last month (research 😄) and also took Ali Abdaal’s Skillshare class on how to create your own Youtube channel. I then took out a bunch of notes and ideas and my manuscripts on decluttering, cleaning, plants, interior decorating, and home in general.

Then I wrote an outline for my introductory video where I introduced myself and talked about my books coming out this year. Then I filmed my first Youtube video. It was strange to look into an inanimate object (lens) and to speak. But I worked through it, and eventually got on a roll with the information in my genre, and had fun with it.

Playing back the recording, it was strange to see myself on video. If you scroll through my phone, I don’t have many pictures or videos of myself. In the past five years, I’ve maybe taken two selfies. I looked and sounded awkward at first until I got more comfortable, but my information was good.

As I played back what I had recorded, I noticed that my background was overexposed, because my background was a sunny window. Oops. I have to learn more about how to film, but in terms of content, I know that I can deliver a lot of quality information. I’ll just have to take on the learning curve when it comes to filming and editing.

In Ali’s Skillshare class, he said the scariest part of Youtube is posting your first YouTube video, so just to do it. So I will edit the video over the next couple of days, and just do it 😊

The purpose of my Youtube channel is to bring visibility to my books and to share the information in them. I have spent so much time and energy on my manuscripts that I want to make a quality Youtube channel. I want my videos to help the viewers, and also to accompany my books. So I will take a day or two to learn how to edit and edit this video, then I will post it 🙌
