I was parked on the street a couple of weeks ago, and found a ticket on my car. I’m pretty careful with my car, so I thought that was strange. It turned out to be a ticket for expired registration tags, but my tags were most definitely current. Indignant, I drove straight to the nearest Sheriff station.
After waiting for a while, a Sheriff came out to look at my car, and to my surprise, the tags were expired. That’s when the Sheriff showed me where there were some marks on my license plate, and let me know that someone probably stole them. And that I should score the stickers next time.
I had proof of current registration because of my registration card, so she signed the ticket off for me. Then she told me that I also shouldn’t stack the new registration stickers on top of the old ones. She turned out to be really nice, and between her and another man who had been waiting in the lobby, they told me exactly what to do.
I then had to drive over to Westwood (in Los Angeles traffic, it was about an hour each way) to pay the sign off fee, and to request that the ticket be waived based on the proof of registration.
For two weeks, I had to be careful not to park in a public area where I could get ticketed for expired registration again. Then, when the new stickers arrived, I realized that I could now post the ‘how to’ steps on Youtube and share this information with others.
So I filmed all the proper steps, and put the new stickers on my license plate, then scored the stickers. This video took me half a day to film, and two full days to edit. Here’s the video below, if you are curious about how to put new registration tags on your car and deter the theft of them :)!
